CLARIFICATION OF EXPECTATIONS for Athletes, Parents, Coaches
- We EXPECT all the athletes to let the HEAD COACH (Eric Lehmann) know if they are going to miss any practices or meets. Parents are welcome to contact me, but we trying to put the responsibility on the girl's. The girl's can bring a note to practice, send an email (elehmann@waukesha.k12.wi.us) leave a voice mail or even text (262 364 9274). The girl's have not been very responsible following this important expectation, this season.
- We will begin collecting the conflicts or trips the athletes and families have over the upcoming Easter/Spring Break on Monday April 11.
MEET LINEUPS
The night before EVERY MEET a "MEET SHEET" goes home with the athletes. We have a 'tentative' list of entries and the events the girl's are competing in. Sometimes CHANGES need to be made to events your daughter is participating. Athletes become ill, injured, or just miss the meet. This causes the coaches to have to reshuffle the line up at times. For example: an athlete in a relay missed the meet for illness.. This leaves 3 girl's in jeopardy of not competing. Coaches many ask another athlete to switch events so the other 3 girls can still have a race. Or a girl is missing the meet, and this may create an opportunity for your daughter to participate in another event. As coaches we try to minimize these changes, but we are always acting in the best interest of team, and ALL the athletes on the team to insure everyone can participate in a meet.
I understand Track and Field meets, can be over 3 hours long, and many of you try to 'time' when you attend the meet to watch your daughter participate and this many cause some frustration, at times. We allow the girl's have their cell phones at the meets and we will continue to encourage them to contact you if they 'switch' events.
We try to work around girl's schedules (music, dance, etc..) when setting up lineups. However, that is not always possible. The reality is that creating lineups is a lot easier, if athletes are available for the entire duration of a competition. The expectation is that all athletes attend and STAY for an entire meet, unless their is an academic or family conflict.
VARSITY - JV
I shared at the Parents Meeting, that the difference between JV and Varsity is performance based. Typically, we are allowed to enter 2-3 athletes in a Varsity meet. The 'top' athletes in a event are typically the Varsity athletes. I understand where things become problematic is when a girl may be in the Top 2 in a running event, but not in the Top 2 for a field event. The athlete might have the expectation to be compete in 'all' of her events, at the Varsity meet. However, that might not be possible.
THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT..... As mentioned at the parents meeting, PARENTS ARE FREE TO COMMUNICATE WITH ME AT ANY TIME.
